MAN DRAGGED BY TAXI: INJURED IN EARLIER ACCIDENT

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 7. Knocked down by a car in Kent terrace this evening, an elderly man was dragged several hundred yards underneath a second car before he was found. He is Mr T. B. Hay, nightwatchman, of 39 Pirie street. When admitted to the Wellington Public Hospital he was suffering from severe lacerations to the top of his head, concussion, shock, and lacerations to the left knee. His condition is reported to be serious. When the driver of the car which struck Mr Hay had stopped after the accident only a shoe remained on the road at that point. Mr Hay had been caught up in the front spring shackles of a taxi following close behind and was dragged underneath as it continued into Vivian street and later into Taranaki street. The taxi-driver twice stopped to try to find out what was holding his car back, and in upper Taranaki street found Mr Hay caught under the chassis. ,
