SURPRISE WIN FOR COBDEN AT BLACKBALL
Although neither team was at full strength, the improving Cobden team proved too good for Blackball in the match at Blackball yesterday arid produced one of the season’s major surprises, with a seven-point win. Cobden established an early lead and never appeared likely to lose it. The Blackball forwards held their own, but the backs were sluggish and ineffective in comparison with Cobden, which showed plenty of dash. Play was fast and fairly even in the first half, which ended with Cobden leading by 10 points to eight. In the second half Cobden held a definite advantage and increased its lead to 20-8 before Blackball rallied and scored the final try, the match ending with the scores, Cobden 20 — Blackball 13.
Tries were scored for Cobden by Herrick, Barber, T. Anderson and R. Lee, while Lee also converted two tries and kicked two penalty goals. Scorers for Blackball were P. Morrow (2). and W. Boyd, two of the tries being converted by R. Nuttall.
