Wellington Air Link With Sydney Planned

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, June 6. It is understood that, plans are being considered lor a new Tasman air service between Wellington, and Sydney, to be operated by Tasman Empire Airways, Ltd., next year, as soon as the Solent flying-boats (now on order) are delivered, says the Wellington correspondent of the New Zealand Herald. If these plans are adopted, there would be a reduction in the service between Auckland and Sydney—one flight in four being diverted to the southern service. The correspondent says the suggestion is for the new aircraft to operate between Evans Bay, Wellington, and Rose Bay, Sydney. The WellingtonSydney service would be to meet a growing demand for a more direct, link between southern centres and Australia, as it is unlikely that the plan for a Christchurch-Sydney service will come to fruition for some years. The new service, would be so timed as to enable a Solent to leave Wellington in the morning, alter the arrival from Lyttelton of the interisland ferry steamer. Arrivals from Sydney at Evans Bay would be arranged to give passengers tor the south time to join the steamer for Lyttelton on the same night. Although no official, announcement has been made, aviation circles v/ill not be surprised to see Tasman Airways’ lour flying-boats idle since February 3 when they were withdrawn from service—operating the trans-Tasman run by the end of the month. , . p ...
