RESULTS OF MATCHES PLAYED ON SATURDAY Although the weather was fine, ground conditions were not conducive to the playing of first-class hockey at the Recreation ground on Saturday when the men’s competition was continued and representative trial matches in both the men’s and women’s sections were played. In spite of the heavy nature of the grounds, however, all matches were evenly contested and in all but two cases the winning,margin did not exceed one point. The exception were ! the women’s trial match, which was bon by the Probables eleven by five goals to one, and the GreymouthWheelmen match in -the men’s competition which resulted in a win lor the former by five goals to one. Results of all matches were as follows:— Men’s Competition.—Greymouth 5, Wheelmen 1; Rangers 2, Cobden 1; Runanga 1, Pacific 1. Men’s Trial Match—Possibles 1, Probables nil.

Women’s Trial Match.—Probables 5, Possibles 1 .
