Weddings

Pettit— Southward

The wedding was celebrated recently 'at St. , Mathews Church, Christchurch, of Peggy, daughter of Mr and Mrs R. Southward, St. Albans, and formerly of Runanga, and Leonard H. Pettit, of Dunedin. The bride’s frock of filmy sheer, worn over stiffened taffeta, was made on slim fitting lines, the bodice being buttoned from the neck, which was finished with a peter pan collar, to the low waistline. The : flirt was full and fell into a long train. Her long tulle veil fell from a coronet of flowers and she carried a bouquet of carnations, abutilons, chrysanthemums and maiden-hair fern.

She was attended by Miss Laura Winslade as chief bridesmaid, Miss Colleen Medlin (her niece), and Miss Lesley Harris (the groom s niece) as junior bridesmaid. They wore aquamarine marquisette frocks ovei* ice-blue taffeta, made with long fitting bodies buttoned from the neck to the waist at the back and threequarter bishop sleeves. Their skirts were full and slightly trained. They wore hair sprays of yellow narcissi and abutilons trimmed with blue ribbons falling to the back .of their heads. They carried shower bouquets of yellow narcissi, abutilons, chrysanthemums and fern. Mr Baker (Dunedin) was best man and Mr D. Sweeney was groomsman. The reception was held at the Wintoh street hall where Mrs Southward received the guests, weaving a black suit, white blouse and black accessories, and a spray of dark red roses. She was assisted by Mrs Pettit, who wore a green suit, grey fur coat and grey accessories. She wore a spray of cyclamen and daphne.. When Mr and Mrs L. H. Pettit lelt on a tour of the North Island, the bride was wearing a three-piece tailored suit of black and grey tweed, white blouse and black accessories. Their home will be in Dunedin.

Laugeson—Dewar The wedding took place recently at Holy Trinity Church, Greymouth, of Estelle Frances, younger daughter of Mr and Mrs C. J. Dewar, of Greymouth, and Maxwell, eldest son of Mr and Mrs F. A. Laugesen, of Ruru. The Rev. K G. Aubrey officiated and Mr J. Patterson presided at the organ. The bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a white embossed organdie frock, featuring a heart-shaped neckline, and long close fitting sleeves. The long train was bordered with scalloped lace and the plain fitted bodice and full skirt were relieved with scalloped panels of inserted lace. Her embroidered tulle veil was held in place by a halo of net trimmed with orange blossom. She carried a shower bouquet iof white chrysanthemums and abutilons. Misses Margaret Rubery, of Marton Mary Fairmaid and Joy Laugesen (sister of the groom) attended her as bridesmaids, and Mrs Doreen Horrack (sister of the bride) was matron. ot honour. The two former wore pink organdie frocks featuring heart-shaped necklines, and bodices with panels ol silver bead embroidery. Their fullskirts were trimmed with rows of frilling and halos of pink crinoline straw with shoulder length veiling formed their headgear. They carried shower bououets of yellow chrysanthemums and *pink abutilons. The two latter were similarly attired in dresses o± bli'ue jorgandie With head-dresses to match. , Mr J Honey, was best man, and Messrs D. McLean, K. Horrack, and C. Lines were groomsmen. During the signing of the register, Miss Janet Dunshea sang “O Promise Me.” , The reception was held at Harker s Lounge, where the guests were received by the bride’s mother, who wore a cinnamon brown jumper-suit with hat and accessories to match. Her shoulder spray was of autumn toned abutilons. She was assisted by the bridegroom’s mother who wore a blacr,. costume, hat and accessories. Her shoulder spray was of white abutilons. During the reception items were given by Misses J. and V. Laugesen, Mr A. Roberts and Mr L, Reinheimer Mr and Mrs M. Laugesen, left later by the rail-car for Christchurch and Timaru, the bride travelling in a chocolate brown model frock under a tweed coat, with brown accessories to tone. Mr and Mrs Laugesen will reside at Moana.
