REEFTOM OPENING OF MINERS’ HOSTEL THIS MONTH
(0.C.) REEFTON, This Day. The official ’opening of the new miners’ hostel at Reefton will take place on April 17. The Minister of Mines (Mr McLagan) with officers of his department and officials of the Labour Department will attend. The contractor (Mr R. Yellowlees) has completed the building with the exception of some minor work on the interior, and some fitments in the main hostel block. Commenced some eight months ago the hostel was one of the largest building projects carried out for a long time on the West. Coast. There will be acommodation for 52 single men, a staff of six persons, and the manager. OBITUARY The death has occurred in the North Island, following a lengthy illness, of Mr George Leogreen, aged 47 years. He was born at Reefton and worked in a number of coal and gold mines in the district before going to the North Island some years ago. He Was a noted footballer and athlete. Mi' Leogreen is survived by his wife and a family of four.,Mrs C. D. Curtis, of Reefton, is a sister. The funeral will take place at Reef ton tomorrow.
