Barton-Rohloff , x '. . The wedding took place recently at St Patrick’s .Church,' Greymouth, of Edna Annie, “ youngest. daughter of Mrs- and .the late- Mr A. J. Rohloff, Greymouth, and John Alan, second sori of Mr and Mrs J. T. Barton, of Glenl?rook, Waiuku. The Rev. Father J. Leonard officiated gt the ceremony and also at Nuptial Mass. The bride, who was escorted by Mr. James Keating, of Wellington, wore an bld-world gown.of ivory embossed' silk featuring a slim-fitting bodice and a square-cut-neck-line of uncut lace and-two-full panels of inserted lace to the waist. The fully gathered skirt formed a circular train with lace at-the .-hem-line'. qnd*also on the three-quarter sleeves. Her veil of uncut tulle was held in place with a coronet of orange blossoms and she carried a shower bouquet of white and pink tinted belladonna lilies, begonias and maidenhair fern. She was attended .by her sister, Miss .Eileen Rohloff, and Miss ; Ethel Barry as bridesmaids. Their frocks of old-gold silk taffeta were cut with a full panel front and padded hip-line, and the fitting bodices and three-quarter sleeves were scalloped and piped in self-coloured taffeta. Their headdresses were a pleated fan shape of soft mauve tulle which fell to a drape at one side and they carried shower bouquets of gold and mauve dahlias and begonias to tone. The flower-girl Miss Adelma Beban, niece of the bride, wore a frock of old-gold silk taffeta cut on similar lines to the bridesmaids and.she carried a posy of mauve sweet-peas and a circlet of flowers on her head.
Mr Victor Barton, the bridegroom’s brother, was best man and Mr W. Clancy, of Cobden, was groomsman. Mrs J. Chunn presided at the organ and during the service Mrs Doreen Wylde sang “Ave Maria” and “Hold Thou My Hand.” The reception was held at Harker’s Lounge where the guests were received by the bride’s mother who wore a model frock of tpbacco brown beneath a musquash fur coal with accessories to tone. She also wore a spray of autumn-toned begonias and maiden-hair fern. She was assisted by the bridegroom’s mother who wore a smart tailored suit of navy wool romaine, shell-pink blouse and navy accessories while her spray was of pink begonias and dahlias to tone. Mr and Mrs J. A. Barton left later by car for the North Island, the bride travelling in a model frock of parma violet beneath a coat of chartreuse green, a violet hat trimmed with green veiling to tone and black suede accessories.
Women’s Institutes New Institutes Formed Under the auspices of the West Coast Federation of Women, two new women’s institutes have been formed in the Greymouth district. The first was at Kaiata where Mrs Baty was organiser. Mrs W. Longstaff, president of the West Coast Federation, presided over an attendance of 21, and also present were Mesdames Dodd, Rose and Smart, members of the federation. The following officers were elected: President, Mrs Cuthbert; vice-presi-dent, Mrs Marsh; secretary, Mrs Boyle; treasurer, Mrs Faulkner; committte, Mesdames Cameron, Norcliffe, Becker, Worsley and Cron. It was decided .to hold evening meetings in the Kaiata school at 7.30 p.m. on the third Monday in each month. Mrs Timlin was the organiser of the new institute at Rapahoe which held its inaugural meeting on Tuesday evening. Mrs Longstaff presided. Officers elected were: President, Mrs Noble: vice-president, Mrs Wilson; secretary, Mrs Sweeney; treasurer, Mrs Clasper; committee, Mesdames Ellwood, Dunn, Howard, Spruce, Thompson and Avery. It was decided to meet on the first Tuesday of each month in the Rapahoe Hall at 7.30 p.m. Greymouth W.l. The monthly meeting of the Greymouth Co-operative Women’s Guild was held recently when Mrs A. Schultze presided. A knitting demonstration was given by Mesdames Anderson and Dixon. The “wandering shilling” was won by Mrs Blyth. Supper was served by the hostesses. Reefton W.l. At the annual meeting of the Reefton Women’s Institute officers were elected as follows: President, Mrs R. Hobbs; secretary, Mrs J. Eager; treasurer, Mrs C. Smith. Mrs N. Sharpe was declared the winner of the annual points prize, with Mrs Eager second and Mrs Hinton third. In the monthly competi-l lions, Mrs Sharpe was placed first fori scarlet runner beans, with Mrs Eager! second. For the best bloom Mrs B. Eklund was first and Mrs Hinton sec-’ ond. Mrs A.
