Dominion Laboratory Appointments

As part of the reorganisation of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, three appointments have been made at the Dominion Laboratory, Wellington. Mr F. J. T. Grigg, M.Sc., F.R.1.C., F.N.Z.1.C., has been appointed Director of the Dominion Laboratory, Dominion Analyst, and Chief Gas Examiner. Mr Grigg has been assistant-director since 1946, and was formerly Government Analyst in charge of the Christchurch branch of the Dominion Laboratory. Mr L. H. James, M.Sc., F.N.Z.1.C., has been appointed As-sistant-Director of the Dominion Laboratory. Mr James joined the staff of the Dominion Laboratory in 1924, and was for a considerable time in charge of the Dunedin branch of the laboratory. Mr G. Maskell

Smith, M.Sc., A.R.1.C., A.M.I. Chem. E., A.N.Z.1.C., has been appointed chief chemical' engineer in . the chemical engineering section of the Dominion Laboratory.—(P.A.) Seven Months’ Imprisonment “This man left a trail of victims from Kawakawa, Whangarei, Auckland, and Waihi to Rotorua,” . said Detective-Sergeant Waterson, in the Magistrate’s Court at Gisborne yesterday, when David George Sutherland, aged 27, a shepherd, appeared on 11 charges of false pretences, theft, and obtaining credit by fraud. Sutherland, who admitted all the charges, was sentenced by Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., to. seven months’ imprisonment, and was ordered to make restitution of x
