Positive Case of Paralysis Another positive case of poliomyelitis in the Taranaki health district was notified yesterday. The patient is a seven-year-old boy, whose home is at Pungarehu. The case brings the total number reported in Taranaki since November to 29.—(P.A.)

Young Man Commits Suicide The body of . George Lachlan Gray, single, aged 29, of Wallacetown, Invercargill, was found by his father, hanging from a tree outside of the residence, about six o’clock yesterday morning. Finding that his son was not in bed, Mr Gray left the house, and he discovered the body. Gray was a returned serviceman. He had left a note stating his intention to commit suicide. At the inquest, a verdict that death was due to hanging while Gray was in a depressed and nervous state of mind, was returned. —(P.A.) Derailment at Bluff

As the Invercargill-Bluff train was pulling into the Bluff station at 10 o’clock yesterday morning the switching points were inadvertently moved, wth the result that part of the train broke away and moved on to the next line of rails, striking a rake of stationary trucks. A UB truck containing the Awara Boating Club’s pairs and fours and the Southland eight boats was derailed and left lying at an angle across.both sets of rails. The truck was extensively damaged, and the woodwork of all the boats was badly splintered.— (P.A.) Man’s Disappearance The police are investigating the disappearance of a young man, Rowland Phillips, aged 20, who was'last seen at his parents’ residence, near Frasertown, on Wednesday night. Phillips is a son of Mr and Mrs Len Phillips. He apparently left home wearing working clothes and an oilskin coat, but it is not known if he wore a hat. On Wednesday night, he put four gallons of petrol in a car, but the car was not taken when he disappeared. Phillips, who was nearing the completion of his apprenticeship, sat for an examination as an electrician a fortnight ago, and the result of it appeared to be worrying him.—(P.A.)
