MINING EXECUTIVES ON WEST COAST UNDER TRANSFER

Changes have been announced in the management of the West Coast interests of Gold Mines of New Zealand Ltd. Mr J. Watson, who has been general manager on the West Coast for the past two and a-half years, will leave on Tuesday for Penang, to take over the position ol superintendent of Siamese interests. Mr C. W. Watson, who was previously manager of groups of dredges in Malaya and Siam, has been appointed acting-general manager at Greymouth, and his assistant will be Mr R .Bryce, of Greymouth. Mr Charles Watson volunteered for service in Malaya when the Japanese invasion occurred and was captuied, being three years in the notorious Changi prison camp. Subsequently he came to the West Coast ano supervised the dismantling of the Barrytown dredge for the company. Mr Bryce, who is a graduate of the Otago School of Mines, has been associated with the company for some years. Mr M. A. Hay, of Hokitika, mechanical engineer to the company, will also leave on Tuesday for Australia. He has been transferred as dredgemaster assistant-superintendent to the Tableland Tin Dredging Company, which operates a tin dredge near Cairns. Mr Hay has been associated with the operation of a number of West Coast dredges. Both Mr Watson and Mr Hay will be accompanied by their wives when they leave for Australia, en route to take up their new positions next week.
