BRITAIN EASES BAN ON PLEASURE TRAVEL
(Rec. 10.15 p.m.) LONDON, March 16. The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sir Stafford Cripps announced in the House of Commons this afternoon that the ban on pleasure trips abroad imposed on October’ 1, 1947, would be eased from May 1. Tourists, he said, would be allowed to visit Austria, Denmark, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Switzerland and possibly a few other countries, but expenses % apart from the fare paid in Britain could not exceed £35 for adults and £25 for children yearly.
