OLYMPIC TEAM’S SAILING MAY BE DELAYED
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Asked in a telephone interview today whether there was a possibility of the de partuiVfor London of New Zealand s Olymp c team being delayed by the waterfront deadlock at Auckland and the possibility of the vessel Port Hobart, in which the team will travel, sailing after April 29, which is ,h scheduled date, the chairman of the New Zealand Olympic and British Empire Games Association, Mr A. D. Bayfield, said the association was “hoping for the best but the position was being watched carefully. Mr Bayfield said the*" appointment of a chaperone for Miss N. Lane, the Olympic swimming representation, would be made within a few days. He understood it would begone of the two Dunedin nominees. Iheie had been plenty of applications for the position, including two Auckland women. He did not think there was any chance of increasing the New Zealand team, he concluded. A move by the Auckland Boxing Association to send the Auckland lightweight champion, Jackie Jenkins, to the Olympic Games by private subscription, has been stopped by the New Zealand Olympic and British Empire Games Association, which stated it would not countenance any such action.
