NO SUBSTITUTE FOR A GOOD FAMILY

“The profane parent, laugh at the thought though he may, is teaching his child religion, but a pagan religion,” stated the missioner, Mr Frank L. Purnell 8.A..8.D., in his address last night at the big tent in Murray street. Speaking on the subject, “God in Your Home” the speaker said, “The moral battlefield of the nation is in the home. All of our wealth, inventions, schools and churches cannot be a substitute for a good family. As goes the home, so will go New Zealand. A survey made in the United States in 1940 revealed that there were 17,000,000 children m the country without religious instruction, and 26,000,000 older young people who never attended any place of worship. The percentage will be about the same in New Zealand, and here is a national danger greater than Hitler or Japan ever were. “Fathers are worried about their sons not having an integrity they themselves have; the result of different home training. We need a better international spirit; it must be taught in the home. We need a healthy dynamic Christian faith; the children must get it in the home.”
