SWEDEN URGED TO STRENGTHEN. DEFENCES NOW
(Rec. 11 a.m.) STOCKHOLM, March 15. The Swedish commander-in-chief, General Jung, has handed a memorandum to the Government demanding measures strengthening Sweden’s military preparedness, including the calling up of more men and building new fortifications and airfields. General Jung said that Sweden could not overlook the possibility that Russia, in strengthening her own security, might think it possible to undertake partial actions without causing a major war. This, and the fact that it might be difficult to obtain arms abroad if the situation deteriorated, prompted his demand for strengthening the defences now.
