Husbands are often the butt of stories and cartoons about describing the size of various articles of apparel when making purchases for their wives. In Petone recently the boot was on the other foot. A woman, noticing shirts for sale, decided to grasp opportunity by the tail. She was asked by the shop assistant what size shirt her husband wore. After some worried hesitation she announced brightly, “I’m not quite sure, but he takes nines in shoes.”
