HOKITIKA PORTABLE X-RAY PLANT ARRIVES AT WESTLAND HOSPITAL
|' A new portable X-ray machine has arrived for installation at the West'land Hospital, reported the medical ( superintendent, Dr Smart, at this week’s meeting of the Hospital j Board. As soon as the servicing en- ' gineer arrived, it would be put through tests, and, if satisfactory, : taken over by the board, he said. The machine would be extremely useful, but it would not do the work of the ' main X-ray plant. The board would have to consider replacement of the main plant. I The chairman, Mr E. W. Heenan, ! said it was intended to put the re- ; placement of the X-ray plant on this • year’s estimates. There seemed to be no prospect of ' reopening Ellis Ward at present and i two staff nurses were leaving at the end of the month, reported the matron, Miss A. F. Ramsay, who was advised by the board that it did not appear possible to build the recreation hall before the winter but the board would support a deputation to . the Minister, asking for special consideration. Miss Ramsay said the provision of the building might help the hospital to retain its nursing staff.
