Thrilling action sequences, filmed against a background of breath-tak-ing scenic beauty, and a romantic story that endures in the face of death, Rex Beach’s adventure classic “Michigan Kid” showing at the Opera House tonight. The story concerns a hard riding, gunsure peace officer’s attempt to defeat a powerful frontier underworld that has arisen in the West during his absence while fighting in the Sioux Indian Wars. In the process, he falls in loye, involving his sweetheart in circumstances which almost brings death to both of them.
“THE MIGHTY BERNBOROUGH” Described as the greatest story of a race-horse ever filmed “The Mighty Bernborough” showing at the Opera House tonight is a story that will forever live in the memory of racing enthusiasts the world over. Although Australia has lost this wonder horse, its amazing record of 15 consecutive wins in 17 starts, although not beating existing records will be forever turf history.
Regent Theatre Tonight: “Sea of Grass,” starring Spencer Tracy, Katherine Hepburn, Robert Walker, Melvyn Douglas. This absorbing drama is packed with spectacular action, eye-filling vistas of the New Mexico cattle country of the 1880’s, and a powerful emotional conflict. It is based on Conrad Richter’s turbulent novel of the great western rush into the grass country. A marriage between Col. Jim Brewton. iron-willed cattle baron, and Lutie Cameron, wealthy St. Louis belle goes on the rocks. Lutie, won over to the sympathy of the landowners and their leader, idealistic lawyer Brice Chamberlain, leaves her husband and two infants. The years that follow leave Brewton a broken man. He loses his fight against the inroads of homesteaders; he sees his beloved “sea of grass” laid to waste; and his son Brock, now a-grown man, is killed by a posse after a fatal gambling incident. It is only now that Lutie returns to the side of her daughter arid to the husband she has always loved.
