FOWLING Post-section Play In Women’s Tourney Commenced Today
Because of the delay e..-..pei lencefl due to -wet- weather, the executive committee yetserday decided to xorego the fourth round of the West CoastBulled Women’s Bowling , Association’s annual tournament., loams with two or more wins, therefore, qualified for play in the semi-finals, which commenced at the Cobden and Karoro greens this morning. It was expected that the finals would be complete-" 1 this afternoon. _ . FifteerTof the 32 fours participating qualified. They were Mesdames Knowles (Blackball,), Britten (Sydenham), Mam (Westport), Armstrong (Runanga), Taylor (Runanga), Brown (Dunollie), Wilson (Westport, Moncur (Hawyra), Peek Karoro), Warwick (Dunollie), Manson (Spreydon), Reed (Westport), Coll (Karoro). Freeman (Nelson), and Jewpll (Tahunanui). The consolation tournament for rinks tailing to qualify, which was to have been held at Hokitika, was can celled. Surprise Defeat Surprise defeat in the first round of rhe post-section play this morning was that of the Hawera four, skipped by Mrs Moncur. After two good victories in the elimination rounds the Hawera team went down to Mrs Wilson’s Westport four by 20 to 9. The other Hawera rink, skipped by Mrs Davis, failed to qualify.
One of the most interesting games was that between Mrs Mara’s Westport four and th? Rimangn rink skipped by Mrs D. Armstrong. The march was evenly contested right throughout, but ihe ivasipori learn prevailed and won narrowly by 15 10 13.
Al the conclusion of die second round of post-seclion play at the luncheon adjournment today, one rink each from Westport, Nelson. Dunollie, and Blackball remained to contest the semi-finals. They were. Brown (Dunollie), Freeman (Nelson), Reed (Westport) ,and Knowles (Blackball). . Th? Blackball rink, skipped by Mrs Knowles, has yet io be defeated. This morning it eliminated 1h? Westport four, skipped by Mrs Mara, m a close game by 18 to 15.
