FARMERS’ DELEGATE FOR CHAMBER OF COMMERCE MEETINGS
A decision to send a farmers’ representative to the monthly meetings of the Greymouth Chamber of Commerce, was made this morning at the quarterly meeting at Greymputh of the West Coast Federated Farmers, there being one dissentient vote. “The views of the farmers are not explained enough or often enough to bodies such as this and the Progress League,” commented a member. Opposition to the proposal was expressed by Mr H. G. Carter when he was nominated as delegate. “Wo are big enough and strong enough io stand on our own feet,” he said, adding that the main policy of the federation was co-operative enterprise, while the policy of the chamber was private enterprise. •‘A delegate would curb a lot of erroneous statements made at these meetingss,” said Mr W. Clayton. Some difficulty was experienced in obtaining a member willing or able to attend the meetings, but finally Mr H. D. Beckett volunteered and was appointed the federation’s representative, the appointment to be reviewed at the annual meeting in three months’ time.
