MEMORIAL PORTRAITS OF MR O’BRIEN UNVEILED IN HALL
Two portraits of the late Mr J. O’Brien (Minister of Marine and Transport) were unveiled at the Lyceum Hall, Greymouth, last evening, by Mr J. B. Kent, M.P., and the president of the Greymouth branch of the Labour Party, Mr R. Ware. One portrait was hung in the main hall, and the other in the party’s meeting room. “In Parliament, Mr O’Brien did a job that the whole movement appreciated. His whole life was one of achievement in which the things he strove for became practical matters of fact. He was Westland’s bestloved man for his life was the joy of service,” said Mr Kent. “All who have been in the Labour Party coulo be proud of their association with Mr O’Brien. Although he has passed out of life, he still lives in the memory of the people. “His name and fame will be a shining example to all of us,” concluded Mr Kent. “He was one whose whole life was devoted to the advocacy of the cause of the common man.” Mr Kent also paid tribute to Mrs O’Brien’s work. Other speakers included Mr Ware. Miss M. Anderson M.L.C., and Mr W. Green. Sprays were presented to Mrs O’Brien, Mrs Green and Mrs Aiderton. ______
