Public Servants Condemn Use Of Police Force In The Printing Dispute

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A resolution condemning “the action taken by the Government in using the police force as a means of suppressing the ventilation of grievances by a section of the service, was carried without dissent at a meeting of the Wellington section committee of the Pud lie Service Association. .... The resolution followed consideration of a report on the recent dispute in the Government printing office concerning salary rates, which resulted in a stop-work meeting on January 21. . The committee, in a statement issued today, states that the resolution also deplored “the use of a police officer as a channel of communication between the Government and the public servants concerned.” It was decided to congratulate the executive officers on the action and the attitude adopted in the matter. . , The general secretary reported that the Public Service regulations and relevant Acts were being revised and that legislation would shortly be introduced to legalise the proposed alterations. It was decided that the executive committee take all necessary steps to safeguard the interests of public servants and that as full information as possible be given to members. Mr K. Menzies, general treasurer of the association, was nominated as a, service representative on the new superannuation board.
