High Praise For Greymouth Municipal Band

[SPECIAL .TO STAB] f - DUNEDIN, This Day.

There, is .more’to.a band contest than the winning of prizes and, while the Greymouth Municipal Band may return home with little'outward evidence of success during its stay in Dunedin, it leaves behind, in Dunedin many sincere friends and • wellwishers. No band in the Dominion contest was more popular with the public, the officials and the people who came in close*' contact; with Greyrhouth’s Uniforms were: spotless, brass was polished to a degree which eyen a guardsman might' envy, and the general behaviour of the bandsmen was faultless. So favourable .an impression did the band make that, on the final night, the president of the New Zealand Brass Bands’ Association, 'Mr | P. Skoglund, expressed the opinion when addressing-the audience in the Town Hall that his trip to Dunedin had been worth while if only, because it had made him so prbud of the fact that he was formerly a West. Coast resident. ■ . • Lack of tangible success notwithstanding, the Greymdutli Band'gained much valuable, experience, by its participation in the T948-championships and, given more, .loyal support at home than has been the case in the past, may. well improve its status until it ranks among the finest units in the country. The material is undoubtedly there and practice will assuredly bring notable development. Off the platform and outside of the arena there is no need for improvement. Greymouth may well be proud of as fine a party of representativesas it has ever sent away.
