The draw for the first round of the Davis Cup matches was made today by the Secretary of State, General Marshall, in the presence of the diplomatic representatives of most of the 29 nations competing. In the American zone Australia will meet Cuba and Mexico will play Canada. , „ The European zone draw foi the first round is: Britain v India; Rumania v France; Hungary v Austria; Snain v Sweden; Switzerland v Pakistan- Italy v Poland; Turkey v Jugoslavia! Ireland v Luxemburg; Egypt v Denmark. Second round:—Netherlansd v Portugal; Norway v winner of Britain and India; Czechoslovakia v Brazil; Belgium v Argentine. The byes at the top of the draw are: Netherlands, Portugal and NorW The byes at the bottom of the draw are:— Czechoslovakia, Brazil, Belgium and Argentina. The challenge round will be played at Forest Halls on September 4,5, 6.
