Everyone has toyed with the delicious fantasy of “how to spend a million dollars,” if it should ever fall into our laps, but to spend it in two months’ time opens up a new line of thought. It just isn’t easy, as Monty Brewster, played by Dennis O’Keefe, soon finds out in “Brewster’s Millions,” commencing at the Opera House tomorrow. The plot concerns Monty Brewster, who, immediately after his discharge from Uncle Sam’s Army, finds that he has inherited a vast fortune from an eccentric uncle in South America. But there’s a string attached to his good luck. His uncle left a clause in his will that Monty must spend 1,000,000 dollars flat in two months’ time before he can inherit the remaining 7,000,000. His idea was that Monty would get so sick of money by this quick-spending spree that he would be wiser about handling the balance. None of it can be handed over to charity, and none must be spent on what the will terms “permanent assets.” So Monty really has a task on his hands.
