PILOTS GO ON STRIKE: AIRCRAFT SAFETY A FACTOR

CHICAGO, February 4. One hundred and forty-five pilots went on strike last night against the National Airlines Company.. A spokesman for the Airline Pilots’ Association said that the strike was caused by first, -increasing apprehension by pilots about-flying planes the safety aspect of which from the maintenance standpoint was open to serious and alarming doubt because of the present strike of ground employees, and, second, the company’s failure to carry out the terms of settlement of a'dispute involving “the unjust and unwarranted” discharge of a pilot more than two years ago.
