The letter entered the “strongest possible protest at the : action of the Price Tribunal in preventing Mr E. W. Hunter, chairman of the Dunedin branch of the Communist Party, from appearing in his representative capacity at a public hearing in opposition to the application of the Dunedin City Council for an increase in tram fares.” The letter described the action as all the more inexplicable because it said the Price Tribunal, by advertisement. requested interested parties to submit their names and the nature of the evidence to be given. The letter addd that, the Control of Prices Act should be strengthened by making it mandatory for the Price Tribunal to hear the appointed representatives of political parties, trade unions, residents’ associations and other bona fide organisations. It is pointed out that Mr Hunter is an executive officer of the Otago Trades Council and a member of the Dunedin Tramways Union,
