GABRIELLA NOW SHORT OF CREW COMPLEMENT
After being delayed at Greymouth since last Saturday afternoon as the result of the'mishap with a hawser, the s.s. Gabriella, fully loaded with coal and timber for Wellington, has encountered further trouble. A fireman, a member of the crew, had to be signed off the vessel last evening on account of illness and efforts to find a replacement have so far proved unsuccessful. It is likely that a man will have to be brought from another port. . The diver engaged in removing the wire hawser from the screw and shaft made another descent this morning and a crane was later employed to pull remnants of the ihawser from the screw, as a small portion could not get cut with the under-water torch. It was expected that this work would be completed, this afternoon, but the crew shortage precludes the possibility of the vessel sailing on this evening’s tide. The diver reported this mornin o that there was no structural damage to the vessel, as a result of the hawser becoming entangled in tne screw. —
