LAWN TENNIS Draw For First Rounds Of West Coast Tournament

The West Coast Lawn Tennis Association’s championship tournament which is to commence at Hokitika on Saturday morning will be confined to players within the province, but large entries have been received f lor all events.

It is expected that the tournament will be completed on Sunday, but failing this a later date will be arranged by the match committee. The draw for the first rounds is as follows:—

Australian Players For Dominion Tour (P.A.) AUCKLAND, February 4. Q. W. Sidwell, one of the best lawn tennis doubles players in the world, headed a group of four Australian representative players who arrived by flying-boat from Sydney today in preparation for a tour of New Zealand. With Sidwell were Mrs S. Newcombe, of Adelaide, Miss P. Jones, of Sydney, and F. Sedgman, of Melbourne. Misses H. T. Toomey and M. R. Bevis arrived on Tuesday, and the remaining players, G. Brown and J. Dart, and the manager, Mr E. R. Stephens, will complete the party tomorrow. DAVIS CUP~ENTRIES FROM 29 NATIONS NEW YORK, February 3. Twenty-nine nations have challenged the United States for the Davis Cup, and the official draw will be made this week. All except four of the challengers will compete m the European zone. The entries are: North American zone ._Australia, Canada, Cuba, Mexico. European zone—Argentine, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Egypt, France, Great Britain, Hungary, India, Ireland, Italy, Luxemburg, the Netherlands, Norway, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Rumania, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, and Jugoslavia. Twenty-two nations challenged last year, and of these New Zealand, Greece, South Africa, and Monaco have not challenged this year.
