BIRTHDAY CARD FOR SISTER KENNY AS BIG AS DOOR
Probably one of the “biggest ever” birthday cards was that received recently on her sixty-second birthday by Sister Elizabeth Kenny, founder, of the Kenny treatment for infantile paralysis, who - is at present in Wellington. Sister Kenny received it before leaving the United States for her visit to Australia. It measured more than tWo feet by three -when folded up; opened, it became a huge double page, the size of an ordinary door, bound with satin ribbon and full of autographs, many of dignitaries and famous men.-
In Michigan there 'is the Kenny Foundation, and it was from that city that the birthday card came. Though many of those who signed their names, were unknown to Sister Kenny, they all knew her. The big birthday card is to become an annual event, but it is only the decorative portion of Michigan’s “present” to Sister Kenny. The other part, recently announced was that the Kenny Foundation of Michigan had pledged itself to pay all transportation costs for Michigan returned men of any American war or of their children (should they contract poliomyelitis), to the Sister Kenny Institute, or to the nearest hospital authorised to give the Kenny treatment.
Michigan authorities hope that both parts of the gift will spread to national scope.
