Mr and Mrs H. R. Barrett, of Hutt, and formerly of Cobden, are visiting Greymouth. The Rev. T. G. Campbell will leave on Monday for Christchurch to attend the general assembly of the Presbyterian Church.

The appointment of Judge D. J. Dalglish to be Deputy Industrial Efficiency Appeal Authority was gazetted last night.—(P.A.) Mr K, B. Longmore has been appointed a member of the Canteen Board to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr R. P. Fraser, according to a notice appearing in the Gazette. —(P.A.) Mr. T. G. Taylor, a member of the Dominion executive of the Returned Services’ Association, is visiting ‘the West Coast. He will arrive at Greymouth tomorrow from Westport and will leave on Tuesday for Hokitika. Pride of place amongst the messages of goodwill, totalling more than 60, received by Mr and Mrs Thomas Mitchell on the celebration of their diamond wedding at Westport on Wednesday was a cablegram from Their Majesties, the King and Queen. Telegrams,. congratulating them . on the great event were also received from Their Excellencies the Gover-ner-General and Lady Freyberg, the Prime Minister (Mr Fraser) and the Member for Buller (Mr Skinner). At a reception, over 100 guests gave the couple enthusiastic greetings. A toast to the bride and bridegroom was proposed by the mayor, Mr J. M. Robertson, and Mr W. H. ' Mclntyre, M.L.C., also spoke. The Greymouth Borough Council last evening passed a resolution expressing its deep appreciation of the services given to the community by the late Minister of Transport, Mr O’Brien, first as a member of the council and later as a representative of the district in Parliament. Sympathy was also expressed with the relatives of the late Mrs Kendall,'who was a daughter of a former Mayor of Greymouth (Mr Andrew Matheson). Mr Matheson, it was stated, was largely responsible, through a personal interview with the donor, for securing the grant for the Carnegie Library in the town.
