South Island Air Race
Sir—The forthcoming South Island ail’ race promises to be an event, in which every district in the Dominion will seek to gain honours. So far I have seen no statement from either the local aero club or local bodies, as to what Westland is going to do m this race. No doubt it would enhance the good name of this district if two or three local aeroplanes Gid compete. As Greymouth has soxne line pilots it would be a’ matter for regret if these lads were not given the opportunity of showing just how good local talent is. To enter even one p±ane would be somewhat of a financial strain on the local aeio club. SP would not it be an excellent gesture if the citizens of the district or some local firms sponsored local entrants for the race? As the National Airways Corpoiaxion has cancelled the air service to. Greymouth, all the citizens should back up this air race and prove to the Air Department that we are keenly air-minded and are taking an active role in aviation on the Coast and that we desire earnestly to have the service restarted here. Yours etC; ADVANCE WESTLAND Greymouth, October 15.
