MR SEMPLE TO SEEK MORE STEEL IMPORTS
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, October 15. He would visit Australia after Christmas to obtain more steel for New Zealand, said the Minister of, Railways (Mr R. Semple) in the House of Representatives this evening when the working railways account (maintenance) vote in the Estimates was under discussion. Mr . Semple said, that when he visited Australia before he had succeeded jn getting for-New Zealand one-sixth of Australia’s output of steel, Australia treating New Zealand “as one of the Federal States.” ■ • < An Opposition member: If you can . make as good a bargain as the wheat: leal it will be all right. •Replying to several members who e asked for -the elimination of langerous -railway crossings, Mr.; Semple said the war had prevented progress, and there was now the material problem.
