FOR FARMERS High Prices Paid For Fat Sheep At Addington Sale

Fat sheep prices reached the highest peak since the freezing works closed, at the Addington market yesterday. A drop of 4s recorded last week was easily recovered and values advanced a further 3s to 4s after that. Prices for fat cattle were again high, although, the selection of choice beef was somewhat limited. The offerings of dairy cattle and vealers were limited and the good rates of a week ago were easily maintained. The offering of store pigs was the biggest for about two years. Last week’s high rates were maintained throughout. Store Sheep.—The whole hogget entry consisted of wethers. Top price was 40s Id, and 40s was paid for another pen. Good hoggets made 32s to 355, with low-conditioned and cull lots down to 255. A line of 46 Romney cross ewes, with good down cross lambs, made 29s Bd, and similar lots made 29s and 28s Bd. Good lots made 23s to 27s 3d, with unattractive and cull lots down to 17s lOd. Two Lines of wethers were offered, and made' 36s 2d and 3'ls 6d.

Spring Lambs.—All classes appeared to be about 4s dearer than last week. The price per lb was between Is 2d and Is 6d. Values were: prime handy-weight„spri'ng Jambs, 41s to 54s Id; light spring lambs, 34s 6d to 405..

Fat Hoggets.—Shorn hoggets were 6s to 8s dearer and hoggets in the wool made 53s to 62s 7d,. and others 42s 6d to 50s. Values were (shorn hoggets): extra prime fat hoggets, 43s to 475; good fat hoggets, 36s to 425; medium fat hoggets, 30s to. 355; light fat hoggets, 26s to 295. Fat Sheep.—Best woolly wethers made to 79s Id for one sheep,- and' ewes to 65s 7d. Part of an entry of maiden woolly ewes sold at 67s Id. Values were (shorn sheep): extra prime heavy wethers, 63s to 70s Id; prime heavy wethers, 55s to 625; prime medium-weight wethers, 47s to 545; ordinary wethers, 39s to 465; light and unfinished wethers, down to 325; prime heavy ewes, 48s to 50s Id; prime medium-weight ewes, 41s to 475; ordinary ewes, 33s to 40s; light and unfinished ewes, 20s to 325. Fat Cattle. —Best beef made to 80s per' 1001 b, with some sales of extra choice at 82s 6d; good beef, 60s to 70s; medium beef, 50s to 57s 6d; best cow beef, to 60s; secondary cow beef to 36s 6d. Values were: extra prime heavy steers, to £37 2s 6d; prime heavy steers, £29 to £3l 10s; prime medium-weight steers, £23 to £2B; ordinary and light steers, £lB t £2l; extra prime heifers, to £25 12s 6d; prime heifers, £l7 to £2l; ordinary and light heifers, £l2 to £l6; extra prime cows, to £24 7s 6d; prime cows, £1 410 s to £lB 10s; ordinary and light cows, £9 to £l3. Vealers. —The sale was again good and late values were fully maintained. Values were: best vealers, £lO 18s 6d to £l4 8s 6d; others, £6 16s to £lO 8s 6d; good quality suckers, £5 13s 6d to £7 8s 6d: large calves, 70s to £5; medium calves, 50s to 675; small and rough calves, down to 255.

Store Cattle. —Values were in advance of late rates. A pen of threeyear Shorthorn steers made £lB 10s. Three-year Aberdeen Angus steers sold at £lB. A large line of 78 Aberdeen Angus and Aberdeen AngusHereford cross cows, in calf, sold at £9 8s 6d and £ll 13s 6d. Other values were: two-year Aberdeen Angus-Hereford-cross heifers, £l3; one pen two-year Shorthorn steers from the West Coast, £4 7s; a pen mixed sex two-year Shorthorn and Hereford heifers £l3 3s 6d; pen twoyear heifers £9 13s 6d to £9 18s 6d. Dairy Cattle. —Best second, third, and fourth calvers made £l5 to £18; good average sorts, £ll to £l4 10s; aged and unattractive, £6 10s to £9. The small offering of heifers sold well; the best made £l5 to £lB with ’an occasional sale at £23; good, £l2 to'£l4 10s; small and backward, down to £9 10s.

Fat Pigs.—Values were: light porkers, £3 19s 6d to £4 10s 6d; medium porkers, £4 14s 6d to £5 2s 6d; heavy porkers, £5 3s fid to £5 12s 6d; choppers, £4 IGs to £l2 8s fid; ligh't baconers, £5 14s Cd to £6 2s fid; medium baconers, £6 7s fid to £6 14s fid; heavy baconers, £6 19s 6d to £7 7s fid; extra heavy baconers, £7 9s fid to £7 18s fid. Average price per lb, 9i;d to 101 d. Store Pigs.—Last week’s high rates were fully maintained. Values were: Small weaners, 35s to 455; best weaners, 50s to 58s; slips, £3 to £3 ss; small stores, £3 6s to £3 10s; medium stores, £3 12s to £3 16s; large stores, £3 19s to £4 ss.
