FIVE LIVES LOST WHEN SHIP STRIKES REEF

(Rec 2 n.m.) VANCOUVER, Oct. 12. The motor ship Gulf Stream struck a reef and sank in Queen Charlotte Sound'early today with the loss of five lives. The vessel went down 10 miles north of Powell river township (British Columbia). Three children and two women arc believed to have been downed. Fortunately the Gulf Stream was carrying only 12* passengers, instead of 202, for which it is licensed.’ The surviving passengers and 22 crew members scrambled onto a reef from which they were rescued by a fishing boat.
