LAW AGAINST LONGER SKIRTS MOOTED
An assurance that an attempt would be made to persuade the dressmaking trade not to follow
the fashion emanating from Paris . of making women's skirts longer is sought by Dr A. M. Finlay (Government—North Shore), in a question of which he gave notice to the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Mr Nordmeyer, in the House of Representatives. Dr Finlay suggested that if cooperation were not forthcoming, any needless waste of materials could be prevented by law. The Parisian nine-inches-from-the-ground fashion, he said, as well as calling for more material, would also lead many women to discard existing serviceable garments simply because they were unfashionable. At least two shops in Auckland had already displayed longer skirts in their windows.
