ILLEGAL MIGRANT SHIPS INTERCEPTED BY BRITISH NAVY

JERUSALEM, October 2.

British naval parties boarded the illegal immigrant ships Paducah and. Northlands off northern Palestine last evening. The ships are carrying about 3500 Jews. They will be taken to Cyprus. A man broadcasting from one of the ships said: “Seven destroyers are all rourid us.” Another broadcast appealed to Haifa Jews to “come and welcome us.”

The Paducah, carrying 1500 Jews, has anchored at Haifa. The ship is flanked by two destroyers. It is officially stated that the British naval party which boarded the Paducah met slight resistance. The Jews aboard the Northands gave no trouble. The Paducah docked at Haifa late tonight, and 30 minutes later her 1500 passengers began disembarking and boarding the waiting British transports, Empire Rest and Empire Comfort, which will take them to Cyprus. The Northlands is expected to dock tomorrow.
