CONFERENCE ON ITALIAN COLONIES. BEGINS IN LONDON
(Rec. 10.25 a.m.) 9 LONDON, Oct. 3. The Big Four Foreign Ministers’ special deputies began their conference today on the disposal of Italian colonies. Sir Noel Charles (Britain), welcoming the other deputies, said: “Mr Bevin is pleased that our respective Governments have lost no time in arranging these meetings. We have a year to find a solution and he feels that the sooner the commissioners have their instructions to proceed to make investigations on the spot the better it will be and. the more time can be given for discussions when their reports have been made.” Sir Noel said he did not foresee serious difficulty at this stage, and,, although November ,15 had been mentioned as the da;te for the commissioners to leave Britain, there was no reason why • they should not leave earlier. Mr Bevin took the view that it should be fairly easy to agree on the first necessary details of procedure.
