MARINE ENGINEERS FIX ZERO HOUR FOR STRIKE
(Rec. 1.15 p.m.) _ SYDNEY, This Day. Midnight tomorrow has been fixed as the zero hour for marine engineers to carry out their threat to walk off Inter-State vessels. More than 120 vessels which normally carry 750,000 tons of cargo every month are affected. There is no sign of a settlement of the dispute, which will paralyse almost completely Australia’s coastal trade unless an agreement is reached before tomorrow. The Minister of Supply and Shipping, Senator Ashley, says he has no plan for intervention in the dispute at present, but he will examine the position., today. Many ships have already been tied up and others are being recalled to their home ports. A spokesman for the Maritime Commission described the threatened strike as a “catastrophe over nothing-” '
