Death From Injuries Received At Football

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, This Day. “This is one of those unusual accidents which are always likely to happen, and there is no suggestion that any blame is attachable to anybody,” said the coroner, Mr A. Addison, at the inquest today into the death of Alan George aged 18, an apprentice. He died in the Auckland Hospital on September 8 from injuries received at football on September 7. The evidence was that before the match started the deceased kicked a football into the air. He ran to catch it. Another player, who jumped to catch the ball, collided with the deceased, striking him with his knee near the chest. The deceased was knocked out. He complained of feeling ill and did not play. The coroner’s verdict was that death was due to extensive internal in j uries. and; shock.
