Land Board Refuses Cobden Lime Works Application
The Westland Land . Board, at its monthly meeting at Hokitika yesterday’, declined the application of Mr G. L Johnston to mine lime from an area of Crown land in the vicinity of the quarry at Cobden. A similar application was declined by the board two years ago, but the proposal was recently revived. The new aplication came before the board at its August meeting and after evidence had been given on behalf of the applicant was adjourned until yesterday. The board intimated that it desired to give the objectors the opportunity to state their case. As on previous occasions, yesterday’s hearing took place in committee, but it was later announced that the board had declined to grant the application.
