LITTLE GIRL FOUND DROWNED IN CITY STREAM
(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The infant daughter of the landscape gardener at the • Mill House, Fendalton road, was drowned in the Wairarapa stream, which runs through the property, yesterday afternoon.
She was Joan Frances Beveridge, aged two years and seven months, younger daughter of Mr and Mrs Harry Thomas Beveridge. The girl was playing with her elder brother and sister about 3 o’clock near the lodge, which is the Beveridge’s home. The lodge is about 50 yards from the stream. Some time later Mrs Beveridge became alarmed about the child, and a search was begun. The child was seen about 4.50 p.m. submerged in the stream. Artificial respiration was applied, but without success, by some Red Cross workers. Mr and Mrs Beveridge arrived in New Zealand from Canada five weeks ago. INFANT SUFFERS ' FATAL SCALDS (P.A.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Sept. 3. Injuries from which she died in the Hawera Hospital were suffered by an 18 months old child when she pulled a pot of boiling water over herself at her home. She was: Patricia Collins, daughter of Mr and Mrs J. L. Collins, Turuturu road, Hawera. CHILD DROWNED IN POND NEAR HOME (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Clive Inkson, aged two, the son of Mr Bernard Thacker Inkson, farmer, of Omihi, was drowned in a pond near his home on Tuesday afternoon. The child wandered away from the house after lunch on Tuesday and when his mother went in . search of him she found him lying in a pond at the rear of the house. Artificial respiration was tried for some time.
