STRIKE PLANNED IN AUSTRALIA ON 40-HOUR WEEK CLAIM
MELBOURNE, Sept. 1. A one-day strike will take place throughout Australia on October 20 and trade unionists will work only 40 hours a week thereafter unless in the meantime the Arbitration Court has announced a. general 40-hour week. This decision was contained in a
resolution unanimously adopted today by the Congress of the Australasian Council of Trade Unions. The delegates • recorded their dissatisfaction with the “unnecessarily prolonged procedure” followed by the court on the 40-hour week case. The congress decided to give full support to anj’ union whose members refused to work more than 40. hours a week without loss of pay. This resolution accepted by the congress represented the motions of two powerful unions and several amendments.
