FRANCE CUTS IMPORTS FROM UNITED STATES

(Rec. 9.25 a.m.) PARIS, Aug. 29. The French imports from dollar countries for the second half of 1947 will be reduced by two-thirds. Imports of petrol, cotton, lumber, paper-pulp, machine , parts and non-ferrous metals will be suspended indefinitely from September 1 under a decision to reduce imports by two-thirds.

■ The Minister of National Economy, M. Andre Philip, announced that France had been obliged to abandon the dollar zone for the sterling zone as a result of Britain’s suspension of sterling convertibility. France had therefore opened negotiations with Egypt and India to import coUu; which formerly came from Te United States.
