GERMANS STRIKE FOR MORE FOOD
LONDON, August 29. The Berlin correspondent of The Times says that demonstrations and strikes have taken place in Berlin and the British zone of Germany in protest against the present rations. Ten thousand workers on the Siemens staff demonstrated on Thursday on their sports ground to urge the Allied Kommandatura to increase the supply of food.
Building trade workers in the Rhine-Wupper area struck this week in an attempt to secure increased rations. Trade union leaders fear the strike may spread to Dusseldorf. . . Seven hundred men at Leverkusen downed tools because they were no longer getting the workers’ ration card.
Spain’s leading bull fighter, Manolete, was fatally gored last night as he killed his second bull in the arena at Linares. The bull and the fighter collapsed side by side. Manolete was considered the best bull fighter in the world. He earned £6OOO for killing the two bulls last night.—Madrid, Aug. 29.
