(Rec. 1 p.m.) LUCKNOW, August 14. The only Union Jack in the British Empire which has flown night and day since it was first hoisted in 1856 was struck secretly last night. After the Lucknow mutiny, Queen Victoria ordered that the Union Jack over the residency should never be struck. Last night Major Curtis, district Commander and three British officers, struck the flag without ceremony. They took it to Br.i - tish headquarters. The new India flag will replace the Union Jack at midnight tonight.
