MORE SERIOUS CLASHES: ARAB AND JEW
(Rec. 9.45 a.m.) JERUSALEM, August 14. As the Arab-Jew clashes in Jaffa entered the fifth day, Jewish sources reported that one Jew and one Arab were killed and nine Jews and four Arabs wounded on the border between the Arab city of Jaffa and the Jewish city of Tel Aviv. Another report gives the casualties as four Jews killed and 20 injured. The British United Press correspondent says the clashes between Jews and Arabs in Jaffa are continuing. It is believed the Arab rioters are mainly hooligans from the poorer quarters of Jaffa. They carry daggers, knives and pistols. Several hundred Arabs raided Jewish vehicles driving through Arab quarters on the outskirts. They set fire to a Jewish bus while the passengers were inside. They also burned two Jewish factories.. Hundreds of police cordoned off all roads between Jaffa and Tel Aviv and drove the Arabs into orangegroves. They arrested one armed Arab youth.
