IMPROVED WORK BY MESTIZA IN FINAL TRIALS

Ideal conditions prevailed for the final gallops at Riccarton yesterday, and the outside of the course proper provided fast going. There was a lot of useful work without any outstanding performances. . . Bridge Acre was the first out, and she covered five furlongs under restraint in 1.6 2-5, the last four in 53, and Good Cast went over the same ground in 1.7 3-5. Kirkella attracted notice by comfortably beating Tranbycroft to whom he conceded weight, over seven furlongs in 1.33, the last four in 53 2-5. Lady Chips recorded 1.32 2-5. .Mestiza showed improved form by beating Miss Medley over six furlongs in 1.17 3-5, the last four in 51 4-5. This was the fastest gallop over this distance. Bruce and Beechwood were almost abreast three lengths, in front of Royal Robe in 1.19 2-5, the last four in 52, and Detain finished ahead of Belle Leonne in 1.20 2-5.

Findon Gallops Freely

Riverview and Dash O’Dink were together after recording 1.19 4-5, and Findon finished in front of Sandy’s Pride and Bath Slipper in .1.19 2-5. Others included Kilfast and Fine Night in 1.20 4-5, and Frances in 1.19 4-5. .

Jumpers In Action Haunting Refrain, purchased last week by Mr W. E. Hazlett, jumped ’.two hurdles in a promising manner. He is a brother to Mysterious Melody, and is destined for a jumping career. Wane and Kinrara gave a fast display over four hurdles. John Gay started off with them but soon drifted, and finished a long way back. Fairyhouse executed a round, of the inside, steeplechase fences,, giving his usual clean display. The main steeplechase course was open, but only one horse, Real Night, was sent over. Although he did not have much pace on, he showed a marked improvement on previous efforts, and jumped each obstacle faultlessly.

HIRAJI BEATEN IN KING’S CUP IN RECORD TIME BRISBANE, Aug. 13. In a record-breaking run, Falcon Knight beat the former New Zealanc. horse, Hiraji, by a head in the King s Cup at Eagle Farm yesterday. The hot favourite, Good Idea, was a neck away in third place. The finish was a thrilling one wita the horses almost locked together and all three jockeys using their whips. Falcon Knight, on the outside, just shaded his rivals and, in doing so, clipped L'sec off the course record set by Faith in Australia in 1935. Falcon Knight started badly, colliding with Bon Mite and tearing a plate off the near foreleg. Hiraji was well placed throughout the race and, with three furlongs to go, moved up to take the lead. At the home turn he was two lengths clear of the field, and he appeared to have the race well won. Result: —

king’s Cup, of one mile and a half.—Falcon Knight, 7.8 (Briscoe) 1; Hiraji 7.9 (Mullane) 2; Good Idea 8.12 (Munro) 3. Eleven started. Head; neck. Time, 2.29. RACEHORSEOWNER WARNED OFF COURSES BY A.J.C. (Rec. 11.15 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The racehorse owner, Mr G. Frank, who raced the former New Zealand horse, Frontal Attack has been warned off the turf during the pleasure of the Australian Jockey Club committee. The decision means that Frank will not be allowed on any racecourse, even as a spectator. Because ,of the international reciprocity between race clubs, the ban is world-wide in its application. The action was taken under the rtile which provides for the disqualification of anyone who at an inquiry by a club or by stewards gives misleading or false evidence. Mr Frank bought Frontal Attack, his first horse, at a sale of Alex Higgins’s property in New Zealand. In a routine inquiry held to establish the bona tides of the ownership it wasalleged that material information regarding Frank’s history was withheld. Subsequently it was reported that Frontal Attack had been sold toMr Elliott Randall, the owner of Cordale..
