RUGBY FOOTBALL SOUTHLAND BEATS NORTH AUCKLAND

(P.A.) INVERCARGILL, Aug. 13. Playing a fast, open game, the Southland Rugby football team beat North Auckland by 30 points to 16 at Rugby Park today, in ideal conditions, before a crowd estimated at 10,500. For Southland tries were scored by G. F. Smith, S. R. Pittaway, F. H. Stewart, and J. R. Forde. The four tries were converted and two penalty goals were kicked by L. F. Ward, and a field goal was kicked by H. S. Hammond. For North Auckland tries were scored by N. Cherrington (2) and J. Murray. (2), and two tries were converted by P. Smith.

(P.A.) DUNEDIN, August 13. The Auckland Rugby football team arrived in Dunedin today by bus from Timaru. They will leave tomorrow morning for Invercargill, meeting Southland on Saturday and returning to Dunedin on Sunday afternoon for the Ranfurly Shield

challenge match against Otago, the holder, at Carisbrook on Wednesday. The team travelled by air from Auckland to Christchurch. Playing the third match of its northern tour, the Ashburton Rugby football team was defeated today by Golden Bay-Motueka by 11 points to nil.
