Local Body Members Visit State Mine
Four members of the executive committee of the South Island Local Bodies’ Association, Messrs E. H. Andrews, J. N. Clarke (Christchruch), C. W. Tyler (Rangiora) and Dr Jobberns, visited the Strongman State mine at Nine Mile this morning. Accompanied by the Mayor of Greymouth, Mr F. A. Kitchingharn, the deputy-Mayor, Mi' P. Blanchfield, and the borough engineer, Mr A. J. Fairmaid, the party inspected an underground section of the mine where features of interest were pointed out by the district manager of State mines, Mi’ J. Hadcroft, and the mine manager, Mr A. E. McMillan. Anothei’ of the executive members, Mr D. C. Cameron, Mayor of Dunedin, this morning paid a visit to the Blaketown and Grey Main schools, with a member of the Borough Council, Mr G. R. Harker. Mi' A. E. S. Hanan, Mayor of Timaru, left on his return last evening, and Mr N. Sim (Gore) and Dr Jobberns will leave this evening. Mr D. H. Cockburn (Arrowtown) together with Mrs Cockburn left today-on a visit to Westport.
