LEADER AS CHAIRMAN (Rec. 10.10 a.m.) KARACHI, August 10.
Mr Jinnah, pale and dignified, and wearing the Moslem grey fur cap and tightly-buttoned silk garment, mounted the dais in the old Sind Assembly chamber and in the glare of newsreel arc lamps signed first in the register when the Pakistan Constituent Assembly held its first session here today. The Associated Press correspondents says the first session which was called to begin framing the constitution for the new Dominion, lasted a little over one hour. Only formal machinery resolutions were adopted. The assembly elected as chairman Mr Jogendranath Mandal, Hindu leader of the scheduled castes, and a former member of the Indian interim Government.
The Pakistan Assembly adjourned to August 11 when it will elect a president and adopt a national flag. Mysore, Kolhapore and the Kolhapore group of States have announced their accession to the Dominion of India. Kolhapore has a population of over 1,000,000. The Kolhapore group consists of 17 States with populations ranging from 150,000 down to 2000.
